The Aurora State College of Technology through the initiatives of Forester Maria Cristina B. Canada, Director, Research and Development Services Office (RDSO) and staff conducted the Annual In- House Review of Research and Development Project Proposals last July 2, 2020 amidst the pandemic. This is the first time that the College conducted this activity via ZOOM to avoid mass gathering and maintain physical distancing. This year’s In-House Review showcased eight proposals for social research category and nine proposals for the experimental research category. All the proposal write-ups and presentations were evaluated by experts from ASCOT Research Ethics and Technical Committees, DepEd- Aurora and Philippine Rice Research Institute. For the social research category, the panel of evaluators were composed of Forester RB J. Gallego, Chairman of the College Research Ethics Committee, Dr. Cris Dan Barcelo, Peer Reviewer of International Research Journal for Educational Leadership and Management, and Dr. Erleo T. Villaros, Chief Education Supervisor of DepEd Aurora. On the other hand, For. RB J. Gallego, Dr. Eutiquio L. Rotaquio, Jr., College President and Chairman of College Research Technical Committee, and Dr. Roel S. Suralta, Scientist II and the Director of DA- Crop Biotechnology Center, PhilRice were the evaluators for the experimental research proposals. Dr. Jay M. Amon topped the social research category with his proposal entitled “Parents’ Involvement in Distance Learning Amidst COVID-19 among Indigenous Students in the Coastal Areas of Aurora”. Maribelle A. Soriano on the other hand got the 1st place on the experimental category with her proposal entitled “Development of Edible Fern Technology Through Production and Post-Harvest Practices in Aurora Province”. Maria Cristina B. Cañada bagged 2nd place for both the social and experimental categories with her proposals “Gender Sensitive Utilization and Management of Mangrove Forest in Barangay Esteves, Casiguran, Aurora, Philippines” and “Growth and Yield Responses of Tissue-Cultured Lakatan (Musa acuminata AA Group) to Inorganic and Mykovam Application”. Dolores Salvacion F. Tolentino with her proposal “Career Development and Employability of ASCOT Graduates: A Tracer Study” got 3rd place for social category while Gerryc P. Alfonso settled for 3rd place in the experimental category with his proposal “Blue Carbon Stock and Species Diversity Assessment of Mangroves in Aurora Province, Philippines”. For the proposals to be funded by the RDSO, these must have passed final evaluation by the College Research Ethics and Technical Committees. Other proposals with high budgetary requirement will be endorsed to external funding agencies.
ASCOT Faculty and Staff Attended Training on Research Publication
In its hope to increase the research publications of the college, the Aurora State College of Technology through the initiative of the Institutional Development and Innovation Grant (IDIG) headed by its Project Leader and Team Members in collaboration with the Research and Development Services of the college attended a two-day training entitled “Training on Research Publication in Refereed, ISI, Scopus, and High Impact Journals Vis-à-vis Increasing the Number of Citations and Research Output Utilization” last November 5-7, 2019 with the assistance of the Central Luzon Agriculture, Aquatic And Resources Research Development Consortium (CLAARRDEC) at Central Luzon State University, Science City of Muñoz, Nueva Ecija. It was participated by thirty-three (33) faculty and staff of ASCOT from different departments and units. The two-day training was organized and moderated by CLAARRDEC. The said training is one of IDIG’s activities that aimed to encourage ASCOT faculty and staff researchers to take part in increasing and maintaining number of research publications which are Refereed, ISI, Scopus and high impact journals. Dr. Rowel G. Olila, IDIG Project leader, gave an overview of the project and its activities. He also gave the specific objectives of the said training and provided points to level off the expectations of the participants. He reiterated that one of the goals in conducting the training is to encourage the participants to publish researches in high impact journals being a requirement for professional accreditation and that the number of research publications also determines the quality of the college/university offering. Various lecture presentations and writeshops were also provided and facilitated by reputable speakers. Dr. Emmanuel M. Vera Cruz, Director, Freshwater Aquaculture Center of CLSU, gave a lecture on Why Publish? Targeting High Impact Journals. Dr. Vera Cruz reminded the researchers to always be mindful of some predatory journals. He also emphasized the importance of publishing a research paper. The lecture presentation regarding on the Tips in Writing Technical/Scholarly Paper was given by Dr. Rich Milton R. Dulay, Instructor and In-Charge, CLSU Mushroom Center. He provided a step-to-step discussion on the writing process and he some examples on how to write scholarly papers using his own published research papers. He also said that collaboration between various universities and institutionalization of various incentive systems helps encourage researchers to publish researches in reputable journals. Towards the end of the writeshop, four (4) faculty members volunteered to present their papers which were critiqued by Dr. Dulay and Dr. Fe L. Porciuncula, Vice President for Research, Extension and Training, CLSU and Director, CLAARRDEC. The presenters were: Ms. Maria Cristina Cañada, Director, Research and Development Services; Assessment of Sea Cucumber Fishery in Aurora, Philippines; Mr. RB J. Gallego, Director, Graduate Studies; Ms. Maribelle A. Soriano, Instructor, Department of Agriculture and Aquatic Sciences; and Mr. Edeneil Jerome P. Valete, Instructor, Department of Arts and Sciences; Identification of Ferns Pteridophytes in Sitio Dipanamianan.
ASCOT Holds Agency In-House Review of On-going and Completed Research Projects 2017
In line with the mission of the College in developing and promoting interdisciplinary scientific, applied and development-oriented research that leads to technological inventions and people-oriented programs, the ASCOT Research, Extension and Development Office conducted its regular Annual Agency In-House Review of On-going and Completed Research Projects 2017 today, July 31, 2017 at the Accreditation Room, General Education Building, ASCOT Zabali Campus, Baler, Aurora. This year’s In-house Review featured twenty-three (23) papers under the Thesis Category, Research Category, and Development and Extension Category which were reviewed and evaluated by the three experts: Engr. Dexter G. Reyes, ME, Municipal Fire Marshal, Dilasag Fires Station, Dr. Erleo T. Villaros, CID Chief, Schools Division of Aurora and Dr. Renato G. Reyes, Director and Full Professor in Mycology, CLSU who also served as the Chairman of the Board of Evaluators.
ASCOT Agency In-House Review of Proposed and On-Going Research and Extension Projects 2017
A manifestation of the growing involvement of the College in research building activities was the holding of the ASCOT Agency In-House Review of Proposed and On-Going Research and Extension Projects 2017.The activity served as an avenue for the presentation of proposals and on-going research and extension activities of the members of the Faculty and Staff of the College. The ASCOT Research and Development Office with the Extension and Training Services Office headed by Dr. Alking B. Gorospe and Dr. Jonah G. Zante facilitated the event last May 23, 2017 at the Accreditation Room, General Education Building, ASCOT, Zabali Campus with a total of 36 papers presented. The activity was actively participated by faculty-researchers of ASCOT who presented their papers and projects aligned with their field of expertise and discipline and were evaluated and reviewed by the Panel of Evaluators coming from partners from line agencies including the Department of Science and Technology (DOST), Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), Department of Agriculture (DA),Office of the Provincial Agriculturist (OPAG), Department of Education (DepEd), and Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).
DTI recognizes ASCOT for its solid partnership
Sheryl F. Tecuico proudly represented Aurora State College of Technology to receive the DTI AWARD,recognition of partnership, from Secretary Ramon M. Lopez of the Department of Trade and Industry, last July 13,2016 in the “Negosyo, Konsyumer Atbp (NKAatbp)regional trade fair featuring quality products from Central Luzon, held at the Fontana Convention Center Gallery Area. The NKAtbp , launched July 13 to 15, 2016, showcased various programs , projects and services of DTI. Talks and seminars relating to E-Commerce, Catapulting Business in the Global Market, Food Products Safety, Intellectual Property and Investment Briefing were conducted. Highlighting the event, more than 50 Micro Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) participate in the Mini Likha ng Central Luzon trade fair and Diskwento Caravan, a showcase of the different services of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI). The trade fair exhibitors are MSMEs from the seven (7) provinces of Central Luzon. Sabutan products of Aurora were displayed along with other famous products like the Bulacan Bread,delicacies, organic products and lanterns from Pampanga, pastry and cashew products from Bataan processed meat, calamansi juice, herbs and spices from Tarlac, turnip pies, corporate giveaways and fashion accessories from Zambales, and footwear, processed products from Nueva Ecija and other locally produced jewelry and furniture.
ASCOT Young Researchers Attend Capability Building for New Researchers of State Universities and Colleges in Region III
A group of new and young faculty researchers recently attended the Capability Building for New Researchers of State Universities and Colleges in Region III held in Central Luzon State University, Science City of Moñuz, Nueva Ecija last May 12-13, 2016. Joining the participants from the different State Colleges and Universities in Region III were For. Michelle Resueño, Ms. Amparo Roberta Espinosa, Ms. Malou Angara, Ms. Cristelita Lombres,Mr. Mark Joseph Rafael, Mr. Mark Lester Cunanan, and Mr. Mark Vincent Padilla, Research Coordinators from the different Departments of the College and Mr. John Ryan Abesamis, CIRPS Coordinator.Topics discussed include, Harmonized Regional Research and Development Agenda by Dr. Julius Caesar V. Sicat, Tools and Techniques in conducting Quantitative and Qualitative Research by Prof. Lyndon Morales and Dr. Janice Morales, Statistical Tools and Analysis by Dr. Arnold N. Velasco and Writing for Publication by Dr. Roberto C. Pagulayan. The two-day multi-disciplinary seminar-workshop was steered by the Developmental Council of State Universities and Colleges in Region III-Center for Interinstitutional Research and Policy Studies (DC-SUC III/ CIRPS) to support new, young and aspiring researchers by equipping them with the basic knowledge and skills necessary to come up with quality researches in their respective fields of specialization. Moreover, it also aims to sustain and strengthen the capability of SUC III in the area of research.
Strengthening Faculty Research Capacities, at its Inception
With its goal of delivering quality research outputs that will gear towards further development of Aurora Province, Aurora State College of Technology (ASCOT), initiated by the Office of the President, launched its research capacity enhancement for faculty members entitled “Comprehensive Introduction to Research Process and Plagiarism” on February 3, 2016 at the Audio-Visual Room, ICTC, ASCOT, Baler, Aurora. Encouraging young faculty members to engage in research, the seminar was intended for Contract of Service instructors, of which a total of 41 forwarded support via attendance.
ASCOT Holds Vision and Mission Formulation
Members of the ASCOT Faculty, Staff, Students and Stakeholders convene to formulate the new ASCOT Vision and Mission in an activity held last September 5, 2015 at the ICTC Audio Visual Room, ASCOT Zabali Campus, Baler, Aurora. Dr. Oscar C. Barawid, Planning Officer led the presentations of the ASCOT Vision and Mission from the output of the Institutional Planning Workshop held last August 27-28, 2015 in Bazal Campus. Barangay Zabali Captain Jose Q. Amatorio, representatives from COA, DBP, and Provincial Capitol together with the members of the ASCOT Faculty, Staff and Students actively participated in the collaborative effort to formulate the new ASCOT Vision and Mission that will be presented in the 80th Regular Board of Trustees Meeting.
ASCOT Holds In-House Review 2015
The ASCOT Research and Development Office conducted the Annual Agency In-House Review of On-going and Completed Research Projects 2015 last Friday, August 14, 2015 at the ICTC Audio Visual Room, ASCOT Zabali Campus, Baler, Aurora. This year’s In-house Review featured 13 research projects under the Research Category, Development Category and Thesis Category which were evaluated by three experts from the Central Luzon State University (CLSU): Dr. Romeo B. Gavino, Chair, Department of Agricultural & Biosystems Engineering, Dr. Federico O. Perez, Dean, College of Agriculture, and Professor Tomas D. Gajete, Project Leader, Smarter Approaches to Reinvigorate Agriculture as an Industry(SARAI-DOST), who also served as the Chairman of the Board of Evaluators. Each participant’s research projects were presented during the whole day activity and were judged by the evaluators based on creativity, originality, quality of work, significance of findings, the manuscript and presentation. Winning entries were commended through Cash Prizes and Certificate of Recognitions.
ASCOT OFFICIALS ATTEND THE 28TH AACCUP ANNUAL NATIONAL CONFERENCE
ASCOT OIC President, Dr. Evi Q. Fontanos together with the other College Officials, Dr. Eusebio V. Angara, Dr. Silvestre C. Escueta and Dr. Ma Luz F. Cabatan, attended the 28th AACCUP Annual National Conference that was held on February 16-18, 2015 at the Manila Hotel, One Rizal Park, Manila. Assessing the Initial Gains of Outcomes-Based Quality Assurance Program: Response to ASEAN 2015 Quest for Quality was the theme of this year’s conference, the objectives of which include making the participants fully assessed and learned from the initial exposure with Outcomes-Based Quality Assurance, deepen the knowledge and practice of outcomes-based accreditation through exposure to national and international experts and appraise the current achievements and redirected future plans of AACCUP with 2015 as a transition year to shift from input-process focus to the evaluation of results as indicator of quality. The event was graced by Hon. Patricia B. Licuanan, Chairperson, Commission on Higher Education and was enlivened up by the presence of Sen. Pia S. Cayetano, Chairperson, Committee on Education, Arts and Culture. Several topics were discussed and supplemented with workshops in plenary sessions. Dr. Maria Cynthia Rose B. Bautista, CHED Commissioner talked on the Assessment of the Progress of Implementation of the CHED-sponsored Outcomes-Based Quality Assurance Framework. Dr. Rupert Sangalang, CHED Commissioner and Former AACCUP President opened the Second Day on his informative discussion on CHED Policies Affecting Institutional and Program Accreditation in SUCs. His talked focused on CHED policies that are important to both institutional and program accreditation of State Universities and Colleges. Meanwhile, the Challenges of Internal, External and Internationalization of QA: Imperatives of AACCUP Response were discussed by Dr. Manuel T. Corpus, Founding President and Executive Director of AACCUP. A Panel Discussion on Challenges and Lessons Learned from the Initial Stages of Implementation of the Outcomes-Based-Quality Assurance was also conducted, with Dr. Manuel T. Corpus as the Panel Chair. The AACCUP General Assembly and Business Meeting and Election of 2015-2017 AACCUP Board of Trustees were also held at the conference.
ASCOT Faculty Presents Paper in MTAR 2014
In quest for academic excellence, Dr. Silvestre C. Escueta, Engr. Amarlo A. Banania and For. Michelle A. Resueño presented their research outputs in the recently concluded International Conference on Multidisciplinary Trends in Academic Research (MTAR 2014) held at Holiday Inn Bangkok Silom, Bangkok, Thailand last September 29-30, 2014. The MTAR 2014 with the theme, “Multidisciplinary Academic Research for Betterment of Society”, serves as a platform for stirring the new ideas, presenting cutting edge research and promoting collaborations among scholars from various fields. The highlights of the conference were the keynote speech of international speakers, Dr. Mohammad Bashir Khan and Dr. Balachandar S. Sayapathi and the plenary sessions.
