The School of Forestry and Environmental Sciences (SFES) of Aurora State College of Technology is offering a ladderized course in forestry. That is – Diploma in Forest Technology (DFT) leading to Bachelor of Science in Forestry (BSF). A four-year course (2 years DFT + 2 years for BSF) about trees, forests, and how these trees and forest could protect people. It is also a course that tackles issues about our environment in local or global context like climate change, waste and pollution management, water and watershed management and protection, and wildlife biodiversity conservation. Additionally, Bachelor of Science in Environmental Sciences (BSES), new course offer.

GOALS

The Department of Forestry and Environmental Sciences as an educational department aims to be:

-The center of development for forestry and environmental education in region 3 under parallel curriculum that focus on ridge-to-reef issues producing competitive and highly skilled forestry graduates;

-To be one of the centers in research for forestry and environmental sciences in the region and in the East Philippines biological region;

-A dynamic avenue in forestry and environmental sciences advancement via effective extensions program; and

-Supportive to the college by means of establishing/increasing profitable forestry and environment-based income generating project.

The Bachelor of Science in Forestry as an academic program aims to:

-Sustain and enhance the academic program of the department in consonance with the latest CHED Memorandum Order;

-Improve students’ performance in Forester’s Licensure Examination through curriculum integrating course audit subjects;

-Increase and strengthen the number of regular faculty and allow them for professional advancement;

-Improve library resources through acquisition of additional up-to-date books, forestry journals and ICT materials; and -Improve laboratory facilities and upgrade GIS equipment through additional funding support from local and national funding agencies.

  1. ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

Freshmen Admission

  1. Students must have a GPA of 80% or its equivalent in Senior High School or better;
  2. He/She must pass the ASCOT Entrance Examination;
  3. He/She must comply with the general admission requirements of the College; and
  4. Preferably a K-12 graduate or a lifelong learner and ALS graduate who passed the accreditation and equivalency test from DepEd.

Transferee

  1. Transferees may be admitted to the Department of Forestry and Environmental Sciences with the following conditions:
    • Passed at least 60% of the subjects enrolled from the previous semester and previous program
    • Must be physically fit to do strenuous

Shifters

  1. Shifters from other programs may be admitted to the Department of Forestry and Environmental Sciences with the following conditions:
    • Must be physically fit to do strenuous
    • Must be of good academic standing (have passed at least 60% of the subjects enrolled from the previous semester from previous program).

Lifelong Learners

  1. Students will be accepted in the current curriculum being implemented; and
  2. Previous academic records must be evaluated to determine his/her level based on current.
  1. RETENTION POLICY
  1. Students must pass the pre-requisite subjects prior to enrolling major
  2. Students must graduate Diploma in Forest Technology before being admitted to Bachelor of Science in Forestry program.
  3. Students must have a GPA of 2.75 or better to qualify for enrolment to Bachelor of Science in Forestry
  4. Students shall be advised to shift to other course if he/she incurred 40% failing grades of the total units enrolled.
  5. For full-time regular students, he/she must finish the program in 4 years; for irregular students, he/she must finish the program in S years; while for working/self-supporting students, he/she must finish the program in 6 years.
