New ASCOT Shelter Livelihood Project Sprouts at Sitio Bulos l Empowering Communities with Sustainable Mushroom Farming

January 7, 2025 | Sitio Bulos, Brgy. Dinadiawan, Dipaculao – A new chapter of hope and sustainability has begun in Sitio Bulos, thanks to the ASCOT Shelter team’s latest livelihood project. The team distributed 10 fruit bags of mushrooms to each household, offering both nourishment and an opportunity for economic growth, particularly in the wake of Typhoon Pepito’s impact.   This distribution was just one part of ASCOT’s larger initiative to equip the community with practical tools for sustainable living. Residents also took part in a hands-on workshop led by ASCOT President Dr. Renato G. Reyes and Dr. Rich Milton R. Dulay from the CLSU Center for Mushroom Research and Development. The session focused on the essentials of mushroom farming, teaching the community how to grow mushrooms not only for food but also as a potential source of income.   “Ang mushroom ay isa sa pinakamasustansyang pagkain, at maganda itong pagkain sa tahanan, at pagkakitaan sa mga susunod,” said Dr. Reyes, emphasizing the health benefits and income-generating potential of mushroom farming.   Dr. Dulay added, “Libre po namin itong ibibigay sa inyo. Sa susunod namin pagbalik, kung sino ang may pinakamagaling magpatubo ng mushroom ay ipapadala natin sa Center para sa libreng training ng paggawa ng binhi.”   This initiative is a continuation of ASCOT Shelter’s commitment to community development and long-term recovery efforts. First Day First Blessing : ASCOT Secures DOST Grant

January 2, 2025 – On the first workday of the year, ASCOT received a meaningful support of 4,850,700.00 pesos from the Department of Science and Technology (DOST), facilitated by DOST PSTO Aurora.The DOST-ASCOT collaborative project, titled “Maximizing the Use of Solar Energy in Food Processing Initiatives in the Province of Aurora,” is funded under the Community Empowerment Through Science and Technology (CEST) program.This project aims to promote sustainability and improve the efficiency of food processing operations in Aurora by integrating solar power systems. These systems will support various stages of food processing, such as drying and packaging, ensuring a continuous, energy-efficient workflow.ASCOT has chosen fisherfolk, fruit growers, and root crop growers in ASCOT Shelter- Brgy. Dinadiawan as the primary beneficiaries of this project.The ceremonial turnover was attended by ASCOT President Dr. Renato G. Reyes and Engr. Maria Ana A. ASCOT and DOST RIII Sign MOA for Solar-Powered Food Processing Project

December 22, 2024 — The Aurora State College of Technology (ASCOT) and the Department of Science and Technology Regional Office III (DOST RIII) have signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) to launch a solar-powered food processing project in Aurora, with ?4,711,200 in funding from DOST RIII’s 2024 Community Empowerment through Science and Technology Program.   The project, Maximizing the Use of Solar Energy in Food Processing Initiatives in Aurora such as drying process of fruits, fish products and rootcrop harvests as well as providing an evidence-based research, ensuring the dissemination of best practices to promote knowledgesharing and exchange among project participants, stakeholders, and the wider agricultural community. It also aims to support residents in Sitio Bulos, Barangay Dinadiawan, Dipaculao, whose livelihoods were impacted by Super Typhoon Pepito. Using solar power, the initiative will create sustainable food processing solutions to boost the local economy.   The MOA was signed by ASCOT President Dr. Renato G. Supporting ASCOTians: 70 Students Receive CHED, TES, and CoSho Stipends

December 20, 2024 – Aurora State College of Technology facilitated the distribution of stipends under the Commission on Higher Education (CHED), Tertiary Education Subsidy (TES), and Coconut Farmers and Industry Development Plan Scholarship Program (CoScho).   70 ASCOT students received financial support: •For CHED, TES recipients: 43 student received 20,000 pesos each. •CoScho: 27 ASCOTiants to receive 70,000 pesos each for one academic year (2024-2025)   The CoScho program, designed to support the agriculture sector, provides a valuable opportunity for undergraduate students who are registered coconut farmers in the National Coconut Farmers Registry System (NCFRS) or their dependents. It extends its benefits to those studying agriculture, agricultural engineering, agribusiness management, agricultural economics, and other related programs. Representing ASCOT President Dr. Renato G. Reyes, Prof. Oscar C. Barawid, Jr., Ph.D., delivered an inspiring message during his welcome remarks, underscoring the transformative impact of scholarship programs. He passionately reminded the scholars, “Dedicate yourself wholeheartedly to your studies and strive for excellence. ASCOT at the ASPIRE Workshop

Aurora State College of Technology (ASCOT) is actively participating in the ASPIRE (Amplifying Strategic Partnerships for Internationalization through Resourceful Empowerment) workshop, happening from December 18-19, 2024. Representing ASCOT are Joseph T. Gonzales, Board Sec V and Director of the Internationalization, External, and Alumni Services Office, alongside James Mathew Viernes, AO VI from the Quality Assurance Unit.   Organized by CHED Region III, the workshop brings together academic experts to deepen discussions on internationalization and rationalization in higher education. Reyes, is making remarkable strides in transforming the ASCOT SHELTER in Sitio Bulos, Barangay Dinadiawan, Dipaculao, Aurora. This project, conceived by Pres. Reyes, stands as a beacon of hope and resilience for the marginalized communities.   The journey began following the aftermath of Typhoon Pepito, when ASCOT’s collaborative efforts and unconditional support came into full force. What started as a mere structure has now evolved into a vibrant hub for sustainable development. The symbolic shelter embodies the ASCOT’ s core values : Dependability, Responsiveness, Empathy, Adaptability, and Mindfulness (DREAM), Beyond traditional feeding programs and donation drives, ASCOT is empowering the community with innovative initiatives anchored on United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. Residents have received seedlings that can serve as both sources of livelihood and sustenance, along with counseling for parents, words of inspiration, and “Saturday” classes for the children—where they can play, read, and enjoy stories. Faculty members and staff have been actively involved, providing relief packs, organizing donation drives, and making regular visits to Dinadiawan.   On December 21, ASCOT plans to host a simple Christmas party at Sitio Bulos to bring joy to the residents. December 9, 2024 – Six Aurora State College of Technology (ASCOT) scientists have been recognized in the latest AD Scientific Index Ranking, a global benchmark that evaluates researchers based on their academic performance and impact. The ranking uses metrics like the H-index, i10-index, and citation counts to assess research productivity.   ASCOT President Dr. Renato G. Reyes, specializing in Mycology, leads the ranking in the Total Citations category, a measure of cumulative citations throughout a researcher’s career. He is joined by three engineers – Engr. Alking B. Gorospe, PhD; Engr. Oscar C. Barawid, PhD; and Engr. Mark Angelo Diaz, PhD – all recognized for their contributions to the field of engineering. Former ASCOT President Dr. Eutiquio L. Rotaquio, Jr., stands out in Forestry.   President Reyes maintains his top position in the Last 6 Years Citations category, alongside Engr. Gorospe, Engr. Barawid, Engr. Diaz, and Dr. Rotaquio.
