On the latest episode of ASCOT To!, we celebrate the recent accomplishments of the ASCOT Law Debate and Moot Team. Our College of Law Dean, Atty. Rocky R. Dujunco, CPA, together with the Lawyers in the Making and team members, shared their experiences at the OADR Moot Court Competition, where they secured third place last April 14.

The program gave viewers an insight into the value of moot court as a training ground for future litigators. It’s like a real-life court case where participants present arguments and counterarguments on a specific legal issue. With each side presenting their case before a panel of judges, it’s a great way for participants to demonstrate their knowledge of the law, research skills, and legal analysis abilities. The judges may ask questions and challenge the participants’ arguments, simulating the adversarial nature of the legal profession.

During the program, Atty. Rocky reminded viewers of the importance of mastering the skills of persuasive argumentation, legal analysis, and public speaking, which are essential in the practice of law. The team members shared their preparations for the competition, which involved reading numerous cases and digests as the topic covered international laws.

They also expressed their gratitude for the support and guidance they received from the administration and other experienced lawyers who assisted them in their moot court journey. The team coaches, Atty. Chenee Morada, Atty. Marian Cloma, Atty. Ma. Vida Malaya Villarico, and Atty. Roentgen Bronce, were given a shoutout for their invaluable guidance and support.

To wrap up the show, the team members shared their personal stories on why they chose to pursue a law degree. From fighting for justice and human rights to pursuing a long-time dream or wanting to expand their capabilities to help more people, their reasons varied but were all inspiring.

Finally, Atty. Rocky announced the ongoing admission for the next batch of law students at ASCOT. Interested applicants may submit their applications online or visit the ASCOT College of Law Facebook page for more information.
