ASCOT Feature:
ASCOT ‘To! Episode 43: Forda Serbisyong Komunidad, ang Kabataang ASCOTians! (ASCOT-National Service Training Program)
The National Service Training Program, or NSTP, and its three program components, including the ROTC (Reserve Officers’ Training Corps), are covered in this episode. The mandate to provide NSTP to students, according to Ma’am Norma T. Barbasa, ASCOT-NSTP Director, is to “enhance civic consciousness and defense preparedness in the youth by developing the ethics of service and patriotism while undergoing training in any of its three (3) program components.”
In particular, in our college, students are required to take NSTP 1 & NSTP 2, and they have the option of taking either NSTP-CWTS or NSTP-ROTC (The third component program, which is LTS, is not being offered yet in ASCOT). The Civic Welfare Training Service, or CWTS, is focused on initiatives that have a social impact through activities that may improve public morality, safety, entrepreneurship, health, and education.
The activities carried out while enrolled in NSTP-ROTC, on the other hand, were also shared by our guest, Technical Sergeant Randy M. Molina of the Philippine Army, 307 Aurora Community Defense Center. Students are taught using a program of instruction (POI) with the assistance of the Philippine Army, which includes basic lessons on military etiquette and discipline, combat training, disaster response, rope course, infantry weapons, self-defense, drills, and ceremonies. The episode aired on September 29, 2022.
