Enhancing information and communication technology for development capacity of youth in the Philippines and in the ASEAN sub-region is the main objective of the ICT events conducted as a part of the APCICT’s “Turning Today’s Youth into Tomorrow’s Leaders” program.
In connection with this, Jorell B. Mababangloob and Von Gerald D. Macose, Instructors from the Department of Information Technology joined the other students and faculty from secondary and tertiary schools in the Philippines who took part in a series of Technical Talks on the significance and impact of ICTs on youth in areas such as mobile applications, social media, ICTs for people with disabilities, robotics, and green growth which coincides this year’s Technical Talk title, “Empowering the Youth Through ICT” and the launching of the “Primer Series on ICT for development (ICTD) for Youth” held last June 24, 2013 at PhiVolcs, Quezon City.
Following the official launch is the Training of Trainer’s workshop conducted last June 25-28, 2013 at the National Computer Institute which presented the first two issues of the “Primer Series on ICTD for Youth” .The first Primer, entitled, “An Introduction to ICT for Development” which is presented by Dr. Usha Reddi, ICTD Consultant from India provided the participants with a preliminary understanding of the linkages between ICTs and the achievement of human development goals in society. Meanwhile, the second Primer issue, “Project Management and ICTD” presented for assessment by Ms. Mayette Macapagal, Fellow, Ideacorp focused on the use of ICTs in managing projects and the tools and techniques in managing ICT for development projects.
The event was organized and made successful by the United Nations-Asia and Pacific Training Centre for ICT for Development (UN-APCICT/ESCAP) in partnership with the National Computer Institute (NCI), the Information and Communications Technology Office (DOST-ICTO) and the Commission on Higher Education (CHED).(CPanlilio)
