Featuring the skills and talents of ASCOTians in the performing arts using our national language, the Aurora State College of Technology (ASCOT), spearheaded by the College’s Sentro ng Wika at Kultura (SWK) and the Socio-cultural Affairs Office, held its virtual culminating activity of the celebration of the Buwan ng Wikang Pambansa, August 31.

Focusing on the aim of promoting the Filipino and the indigenous languages in the country, the theme for this year’s month-long celebration is “Filipino at mga Wikang Katutubo sa Dekolonisasyon ng Pag-iisip ng mga Pilipino.”

With a very strong fighting spirit, the different academic departments of the College participated in the said event virtually by submitting their video entries represented by their respective contestants in the various virtual competitions that included Spoken Word Poetry Contest, Poster-Making Contest, Barong at Filipiniana sa Bagong Normal, Modern TikTok Dance Competition, OPM Songwriting Competition with Performance, and Harana sa Nayon/Vocal Solo.

In her message during the opening program, Dr. Evi Q. Fontanos; Vice President for Academic Affairs, stressed the importance of this celebration, especially, in enriching and promoting the use of the Filipino language. She also expressed her thanks to the organizers of the event-the SWK and SCA, headed by their respective directors.

Meanwhile, in his message, Dr. Eusebio V. Angara, Vice President for Research, Extension, and Innovation, emphasized the importance of using the Filipino language in giving different kinds of emotions to other people. That’s why it is always important to use words and language appropriately in different contexts and situations.

Stressing the need for the College to continue its objectives of implementing different activities and programs like this despite the pandemic, Forester Michelle A. Resueño; Vice President for Planning and Finance, said in her message that the College since then has participated in the promotion and preservation of the Filipino language through its concerned units and offices, even during these trying times, using different technologies.

 On the other hand, Ms. Glenda M. Nad, Director of the Sentro ng Wika at Kultura, expressed her gratitude, thanks, appreciation, and congratulations to the contestants from the different departments who showcased their talents and skills in the different fields of performing arts using the Filipino language. She also thanked the academic directors for their active participation and support in the virtual celebration.

Moreover, she said that their office, in collaboration with other offices, units, and departments of the College, will continue to enrich and showcase ASCOTians’ talents and skills in different fields through planning and organizing various activities and programs like this in the future.
