The Aurora State College of Technology first year accountancy students led by Mr. James Mathew Viernes initiated the Liwanag Sa Dilim: Solar Street Light for School Safety. It that took place from from May 2 to May 5, 2024.

The project aimed to enhance visibility and campus safety, reduce accident risks, and promote sustainability on campus. By installing solar street lights at key exits, evening visibility improved, reducing accidents. Additionally, the solar lights cut ASCOT’s reliance on conventional electricity, lowering both its carbon footprint and costs.

This effort supported several UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), fostering global sustainability. It contributed to Good Health and Well-being (SDG 3), Affordable and Clean Energy (SDG 7), Sustainable Cities and Communities (SDG 11), and Climate Action (SDG 13). Through these efforts, the project aligns with key global priorities for a sustainable and equitable world.
