In response to this year’s theme of Women’s Month Celebration, “Kapakanan ni Juana, Isama sa Agenda”, Aurora State College of Technology held series of activities to promote women’s right. Women’s Month Celebration is an annual observation that the college has been doing to recognize the importance of women in the society. Consistent with Proclamation No. 227 s. 1988, the annual conduct of the National Women’s Month Celebration (NWMC) aims to give due recognition to the contributions of Filipino women in our society.
Moreover, this event aims to strengthen public advocacy on National Women’s Month, with emphasis on women’s issues that need to be addressed. To create an avenue for women and women advocates to celebrate the gains of the current generation with regards to closing gender gap, and to show continues support to the the advocacy and prioritization of women’s issues in various agenda.
The college, having a known Gender and Development (GAD) advocate on its helm in the person of Dr. Doracie B. Zoleta- Nantes, has been promoting gender equality programs. As a matter of fact, just recently the college successfully held Training on Gender Sensitivity and Gender Fair Language in Instruction and Communication .
For this specific celebration the college listed activities such as.
- Wearing of violet every Friday of March.
- Zumba dance at the College covered court at 4-5 in the afternoon for three consecutive Fridays commencing March 4, 2016
- “Tulong Kay Magdalena”, rolling boxes to accumulate financial support for identified rape victim in the nearby community.
Municipal and Provincial Activities are also held to observe the said activity in joint with the college. In connection with this, Dr. Nantes served as a resource speaker in the Provincial Celebration of Women’s Month. Ms. Dina Dela Cruz-Lim, ASCOT Gad coordinator, spearheads the said endeavour within the college.
