In his speech, he reminded everyone of the upcoming budget hearing on October 1, 2024. The hearing will be attended by the Vice President for Academic Affairs (VPAA) and the Vice President for Administration, Planning, and Finance.

He also acknowledged the frequent occurrence of typhoons, especially during these months, particularly affecting the east coast of the country. He stressed that ASCOT follows the guidelines set by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) during these weather disturbances, but local government announcements must also be considered. The disruption in classes affects the academic calendar, he tasked the VPAA with studying how other state universities and colleges (SUCs) manage similar situations.

In times when students have no classes but faculty members and staff are still required to report, he encouraged the faculty to take advantage of the time by working on their research and aiming to have their studies published internationally. He emphasized the need to maximize time and balance tasks effectively.

Additionally, he called for the monitoring of ASCOT’s board exam performance, particularly in courses like forestry. He urged the faculty to focus on improving the results, which reflect the institution’s academic standing.

He also looked back at the recent two-day seminar-workshop on the Land Use Development and Infrastructure Plan (LUDIP), where priorities like building additional classrooms and thematic laboratories were discussed. President Reyes proudly shared that his office had established an Oriental Fermentation Laboratory. He invited anyone interested in mentorship to approach him.

During the previous week, he visited ASCOT’s Bazal campus, where he explored the surrounding forest and inspected the ranch. He noted that the area was now heavily forested and that there were signs of squatting. He called for interventions to address the issue. The visit also included a MYCO exploration in collaboration with experts from Central Luzon State University (CLSU).

He reminded everyone of the deadline for submitting proposals for the Fulbright Program, encouraging faculty members to seize the opportunity to further their studies abroad. He underscored the value of international education, stating that the connections and networks built while studying abroad are invaluable.

In terms of world rankings, he expressed his desire to understand ASCOT’s current position, highlighting that rankings offer a clear picture of where the institution stands and areas where improvements can be made.

Finally, President Reyes emphasized the importance of attending activities like the flag-raising ceremony, as they set the tone and mood for the week ahead. As parting words, he inspired everyone to develop a burning passion for their work, reminding them that their efforts are not only for the betterment of ASCOT but also for their personal growth.
