June 7, 2024 – Aurora State College of Technology (ASCOT) attended the regional promotions of the Horizon Scan on the Biotechnology Path of the Philippines at Central Luzon State University. Representing the college were Dr. Mark Joseph Raphael, Dean of the School of Agriculture and Aquatic Science; Charles Velasco from the Research and Development Office; Gin Corpuz, faculty at the HM & TM Program; Engr. Felix Rabago from the School of Engineering; and Diana Rose De Mesa-Amazona, Head of the Information Unit.
The seminar brought together speakers from academia, research institutions, government, and industry to lead discussions on the future of biotechnology in the Philippines. The five-hour session was rich with insights into the numerous applications of biotechnology, including environmentally friendly alternatives to traditional methods, reduced energy requirements, and the production of socially desirable products.
The seminar highlighted the need to enhance biotech efforts and advancements to create wealth, provide food, and effectively utilize the country’s biodiversity.
ASCOT’s participation in the seminar underscores the importance of collaborative efforts between educational institutions, government, and industry as part of the efforts of SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals). This partnership aims to leverage shared knowledge and resources to foster sustainable development and innovation in biotechnology, benefiting both the local community and the nation as a whole.
