August 16, 2024 – The Aurora State College of Technology – School of Accountancy and Business Management, held a general orientation for accounting students.
The event opened with a message from Diana Rose De Mesa -Amazona, Head of the Information Unit, who represented ASCOT President Renato G. Reyes. In her speech, she emphasized the significance of putting love and passion into everything that one does. Citing Steve Jobs, she remarked, “The only way to do great work is to love what you do.” She further encouraged students to approach their tasks with enthusiasm, noting that when one is passionate, even the most challenging tasks can be accomplished. “Make sure that you fall in-love with everything you do. Go to your classes, join clubs, and embrace the opportunities that come to your plate,” she said.
Outgoing Junior Philippine Institute of Accoutants-ASCOT Vice President Kenjie Mostoles addressed common fears among accounting students, encouraging them not to fear difficult subjects. He reassured them of the Dean’s support and shared the advice: “Have a winner’s mindset.” He emphasized staying positive and envisioning themselves as future CPAs, ready to pass the board exam and excel.
The orientation also featured a guest speaker, Franque Sienna-An M. Mata, CPA, the Executive Vice President of the Philippine Institute of Certified Public Accountants (PICPA) Aurora Chapter. She provided practical tips for surviving the rigors of being an accounting student. She summarized her advice with the acronym TTAAPP: Time, Target, Advance Reading, Ask, Practice, and Persevere. She stressed the importance of time management, setting targets for optimal study hours, and engaging in advance reading. She also encouraged students to ask questions, practice problem-solving, and persevere through the inevitable ups and downs of their academic journey. “Kapag may tiyaga may nilaga, mas masarap damahin ang tagumpay na pinaghirapan. Sana, after five years, makita ko rin kayo na magbigay ng inspirasyon sa mga aspiring CPA’s. Alam ko darating ang araw na makukuha niyo rin ang title na Certified Public Accountant,” she said.
Following the guest speaker’s presentation, the discussion covers the College’s mission and vision, details about various offices within the college, student organizations, subjects offered at the School of Accountancy, and the planned activities for the academic year 2024-2025.
The election of new JPIA officers took place after the orientation and concluded with a closing message from the newly elected president, Kristin Anne Dela Torre, who thanked everyone for their participation and expressed optimism for the future of the JPIA.
