The Aurora State College of Technology (ASCOT) is hosting an extension program titled “Alay Kabuhayan,” focusing on capacity rebuilding and development, specifically the rebuilding and overhauling of single piston diesel engines.
Held from February 29 to March 1, 2024, at the Fish Landing Center in Sitio Castillo, Brgy. Sabang, Baler, Aurora, the event aims to draw fishermen and fisherfolk from Brgy. Sabang eager to enhance their skills.
The program kicked off with a welcoming message from Annie R. Capin, Dean of the School of Industrial Technology, encouraging participants to seize the opportunity for personal and professional growth. Dr. Ricardo G. Gonzales, Director of Extension and Rural Development, emphasized the importance of community initiatives like this in fostering growth and self-reliance, urging participants to make the most of the learning opportunity.
ASCOT President Renato G. Reyes also graced the occasion, expressing, “Naisin talaga ng Aurora State College College of Technology na ilapit ang ASCOT sa mga tao. Sa puntong ito, lumapit ang ASCOT sa inyo para magkaroon tayo ng
pagtutulungan. Ang ating mga eksperto sa School of Industrial Technology ay lumapit sa inyo upang linangin ang inyong kasanayan sa sa pagayos ng mga makina na kailangan ninyo upang kayo ay makapalaot sa dagat at makahuli ng naraming isda.”
He encouraged participants to not only acquire new skills but also to seek ongoing support from ASCOT’s faculty members. “Tututukan namin kayo para makita namin na kaya na namin ilipat ‘yung aming kaalaman sa inyo at kaya niyo ring ilipat ang inyong kaalaman sa iba. Sana ay makamit natin ang ating mga layunin para maging maayos ang ating mga gawain, para maging masaya ang bawat pamilya.” President . Reyes during his speech.
Mr. Arnold B. Novicio, Provincial Agriculturist, highlighted the collaborative effort behind the program and stressed the importance of skill enhancement in the agricultural sector for improving standards of living among fisherfolk. “Hopefully, ay mas maraming projects pa at pagsasanay ang makuha natin sa ating mga partner agencies upang maingat ang standards of living ng ating mga fisherfolk.”
The two-day program featured various activities, including hands-on demonstrations and sessions on injection and calibration techniques.
Through programs like “Alay sa Kabuhayan,” ASCOT continues to equip individuals with the skills needed to thrive in their livelihoods, contributing significantly to the overall development of the community.
