Forty five BSIT fourth year students joined a three-day field trip held last February 20 to 22 in Subic and Metro Manila under the guidance of Engr. Godfrey B. Gudoy. The trip is a part of their Current Trends in Information Technology subject and aimed to give them a hands-on experience on the real world application of what they have been learning inside the classroom, to witness the current trends and technologies in the IT world and to experience first-hand how IT companies operate and what work environment surrounds an IT Professional.
The first day of the trip took place in Subic where they visited the Subic Tourism Department. They also spent time visiting the Subic Bay International Airport where they got the chance to roam around its premises and hear details from the airport personnel how transactions were done in the airport through the different ICT wares installed in the area. The visit to PAG-ASA Weather Station has exposed the students to different ICT usage in weather forecasting. Concluding their Subic trip was their visit to the Subic Bay International Terminal Corporation/SB Container Terminal, an ICTSI Group company that has been serving the growing economy of the northern regions of the Philippines through world class container handling services.
On the second day of the tour the students visited the PLDT-Innolab, the innovation laboratory of PLDT, where they got a lecture on the fundamentals of communications. They also visited the ICTO-National Computer Center and the University of the Philippines-Information Technology Development Center where everybody got energized on the discussion about game development.
They visited the First Academy of Computer Arts on the last day of the tour. The academy personnel welcomed the group and they heard a talk about digital design technology and viewed examples of projects designed by students. (C. Panlilio)
