Day 1 of the ASCOT Strategic Planning Cum Capacity Enhancement on the RA 9184 at Bacolor, Pampanga brought together key college officials, academic leaders, and administrative heads for a dynamic and transformative 3-day session.
Led by the ASCOT OIC President, Lora Yusi, the program kicked off with an engaging talk that not only provided insightful perspectives but also set the stage for a positive and collaborative atmosphere.
Ms. Yusi, in her inspirational message, shared words of wisdom emphasizing the importance of mindfulness in the fast-paced world of academia. To underscore the significance of balance, she initiated a cellphone break, placing mobile devices at the center of tables. With candor, she revealed her own practice of checking faculty whereabouts through social media, highlighting the delicate equilibrium required in professional and personal lives. She underscored that being human extends beyond the realm of constant activity, emphasizing the necessity of relaxation for enhanced productivity.
Reflecting on her first three months as OIC, Ms. Yusi expressed optimism about ASCOT’s potential. In a poignant moment, she conveyed her heartfelt commitment to elevating the institution to greater heights, pledging to leverage her influence for the benefit of ASCOT as a whole.
As part of the strategic planning process, Ms. Yusi introduced the concept of “SITTING IS THE NEW SMOKING,” shedding light on the health impacts of prolonged sitting. This spurred ASCOT into action, injecting energy into the session and dispelling any lingering negativity. Key words such as active, vibrant, cheerful, festive, inclusive, and empowering were strategically introduced to inspire collective action among participants. “Lahat Kasali, Kasali lahat” was the mantra of the day.
In a unique and creative exercise, participants were asked to sing the traditional Filipino song “Bahay Kubo” using different vowel sounds. Ms. Yusi explained that change, though challenging, is inevitable, and encouraged everyone to embrace new approaches and ideas.
The day concluded with a tour at the Orchid Gardens, Christmas Villaga, Nights of Lights, where participants were urged to reconnect with their inner child. This immersive experience was designed to foster a sense of joy and playfulness, aiming to remind everyone that amidst the serious business of strategic planning, moments of enjoyment and camaraderie are vital for maintaining a healthy work-life balance.
