September 9, 2024- Aurora State College of Technology (ASCOT) is excited to announce its selection as a recipient of Japan-related books through the Tokyo Foundation for Policy Research’s READ JAPAN Project 2024. Launched by The Nippon Foundation in 2008, this initiative aims to promote a deeper understanding of Japanese culture and society by providing English-language books to universities worldwide.
The books, covering a wide range of topics from Japanese history to culture, are currently being prepared for shipment. Though some may take a few months to arrive, they will greatly enrich ASCOT’s library and offer students, faculty, and researchers valuable resources on Japan.
In line with this, ASCOT plans to host a special donation ceremony in coordination with the Japanese embassy to formally mark the occasion and celebrate the college’s efforts toward internationalization.
ASCOT President Dr. Renato G. Reyes said, “These Japan-related books are a wonderful addition to our growing global resources. They will help broaden our students’ perspectives and deepen their understanding of Japanese culture, aligning with our internationalization efforts.”
The Vice President for Administration, Planning and Finance, Engr. Oscar C. Barawid, Jr., who is also an alumnus of a Japanese government scholarship and the READ JAPAN Project focal person for ASCOT, expressed optimism about the impact of this donation.
“Through this initiative, we hope to promote arts and culture within the college, which could lead to more scholarship opportunities for ASCOTians,” Barawid said.
This donation is set to strengthen ASCOT’s academic community and open doors to more international collaborations and opportunities for learning.
