
The training program, held at the Barangay Hall of Brgy. Ditumabo, showcased a student-designed machine that simplifies coconut farming processes. Dr. Alking B. Gorospe, Dean of SoE, emphasized collaboration in his opening remarks: “Mapaunlad ang coconut farming at gagawin natin ito ng sama-sama. Sa abot ng ating makakaya.”
DCLFA President Pilar A. Caberto expressed gratitude: “Maraming salamat sa School of Engineering ng ASCOT dahil napagtuunan ninyo ang isa sa mga pangunahing nais masolusyonan namin bilang isang asosasyon.”
The machine was developed by students Jared Simon C. Ibale, Exzelle B. Pescado, Aiko Gabogen, Lenie Lyn Galvez, and Christian Canonigo under the guidance of Engr. Marc Jervin B. Bitong. Designed for efficiency and inclusivity, it allows easy operation by both men and women.
Ms. Glenda N. Gines, Director of the Office of Extension and Rural Development, highlighted its potential: “Sa tulong ng mekanismong ito, mas mapapabilis ang proseso ng pagtatanggal ng balat ng niyog at mas lalaki ang kita ng bawat isa.”
ASCOT President Dr. Renato G. Reyes encouraged a modern approach to farming:
“Ang kailangan natin ay kooperasyon para sa sama-samang pag-unlad. Panahon na upang gawing makabago ang industriya ng pagniniyog. Ipakita natin ang modelo ng modernong pagniniyog dito sa Central Luzon.”
The event featured a machine operation demo and discussions led by the engineering team. Farmers shared feedback, suggesting improvements for efficiency and adaptability to varying coconut sizes.
In closing, Dr. Oscar C. Barawid Jr., Vice President for Administration, Planning, and Finance, reaffirmed ASCOT’s commitment to community development:
“ASCOT does not only produce great minds but also extends services in the community. Eto palang po ang simula.”
