February 21, 2024- The Aurora State College of Technology’s (ASCOT) School of Forestry and Environment Sciences commenced its weeklong celebration with the theme “Harmony in the Wilderness: Bringing Minds and Building Bonds.” The event aimed to foster unity and collaboration among students, faculty, and staff towards environmental stewardship.
ASCOT President Dr. Renato G. Reyes highlighted the significance of the theme, urging everyone to work together in preserving the wilderness. He said, “Magtulungan tayo, wala dapat maiiwan. Parang sa hiking. Sabay-sabay tayong makakarating sa peak.” He also emphasized the need to share the beauty of Aurora’s forests with others. “Mag take down notes; makagawa ng research habang nag-explore.” “Whenever you go out, dalhin ang maganda at ibalita sa iba [potential collaborators] ang kagandahan ng Aurora. Ang kagandahan ng kagubatan. [N]a at least may katulong tayo mapaunlad ito.”. “‘Wag kayo magsasawa gumawa.” Dr. Reyes added.
For. Marilyn F. Dela Torre, Forest Management and Wildlife Specialist, served as a guest speaker and delivered an inspirational message. She emphasized the need for sustainable forest management practices and the importance of wildlife conservation. “Ang benepisyo ng kalikasan, ‘yan na ang hinahanap ng tao ngayon. “Pag stress, saan pumupunta? Sa dagat, sa mga kagubatan… Makalanghap ka ng orihinal na pakiramdam ng Kalikasan. At iyan ang challenge sa atin. Ma -preserve ito at mapangalagaan.” Forester Dela Torre said.
The kick-off celebration set a positive tone for the upcoming week, filled with various activities aimed at promoting environmental awareness and fostering a deeper appreciation for nature among the ASCOT community.
