January 18, 2024 – Aurora State College of Technology (ASCOT) President Dr. Renato G. Reyes led a coaching and mentoring session designed to elevate research publication skills and encourage applications for international scholarships among faculty members. The session took place at the Bulwagang Senator Edgardo J. Angara Upper Deck, General Education Building, ASCOT Zabali Campus, Baler.
Eighteen faculty members attended the session, reflecting their dedication to advancing research capabilities. Dr. Reyes emphasized the importance of scientific visibility and creating credible profiles to broaden the impact of scholarly work: “Be visible, be credible. Your research is not just for today; it’s for the world to see and learn from.”
The president encouraged faculty members to join the National Research Council of the Philippines (NRCP), unlocking access to valuable resources and collaborative opportunities. He also highlighted international scholarships as pathways for professional and academic growth.
“Insightful and inspiring po si Pres. Reyes. Nakaka-encourage po na lumabas ng bansa for graduate studies,” shared Ms. Janna Martha Lopez, an instructor from the School of Accountancy, Business and Management. To support effective research writing, Dr. Reyes urged participants to register for ORCID and leverage tools like Mendeley and Zotero for managing citations and references.
The discussion also explored intellectual property rights, with Dr. Reyes providing a primer on securing patents, utility models, industrial designs, trademarks, and copyrights. A follow-up seminar on this topic, led by the Research and Development Department under Dr. Alking Gorospe, is already being planned, with details to be announced soon.
The session concluded with an open invitation from Dr. Reyes for faculty members to join the weekly Saturday coaching and mentoring program, designed to foster a vibrant research culture and professional growth.
“The future of research at ASCOT starts with you. Let’s work together to make every idea matter.”
