EAST ASIA CONFERENCE - SKILLS DEVELOPMENT FOR PRODUCTIVITY

Last March 23-26, 2011, Dr. Eusebio V. Angara attended the East Asia Conference on Skills Development for Productivity held at ShangriLa Hotel, Jakarta Indonesia. Five delegates from the Philippines participated in this event sponsored by the World Bank. Two of the participants were from the Department of Labor and Employment, one from the Department of Education, one from the Technical Education and Skills Development
Authority, and one from State Universities and Colleges, represented by Dr. Seb Angara.

Nine countries got to join in the conference; Cambodia, China, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Mongolia, Philippines, Vietnam and Thailand. The conference focused on the specific challenges faced by the countries in attendance regarding the technical and vocational
education and skills development . In response to these, policies were drafted to further open opportunities to the youths.
