The ASCOT Steering Committee meets with the National Steering Committee for the Congress of the International Society for Southeast Asian Agricultural Sciences (ISSAAS) today, August 1, in preparation for the said congress’ Virtual Conference on October 13–14, this year.
Dr. Nina M. Cadiz, Dr. Simplico M. Medina, Dr. Evalour T. Aspuria, Dr. Fernando C. Sanchez Jr., of the University of the Philippines-Los Banos, and Dr. Renato G. Reyes of Central Luzon State University arrived on Saturday, July 30, and will stay for one more day for the consultation regarding ASCOT’s debut hosting of the international congress.
According to Dr. Cadiz, the first thing that needs to be done is to encourage more participants than others. “The host university should be able to advertise it well,” he pointed out.
Dr. Eusebio Angara, the Vice President for Research, Innovation, Extension, and Training and the overall Chairman of the local steering committee, has been organizing and supervising the timeline for the upcoming big event.
The main objective of the ISSAAS-Philippines is to encourage a holistic approach to problems and to promote the progress and development of science and technology related to agricultural sciences through research and publication, and the outcome is to be for regional agricultural development.
The society is organized by scientists, technical experts, and other proponents of the society’s goals in the broad field of agricultural sciences, whose activities are within the Southeast Asian Region. Since 1994, the Philippines has been participating in the international congress, contributing up to seventy-five percent of published researchers per journal.
Participants who join ISSAAS will receive not only CPD points but also an excellent research platform. This provides opportunities for international journal publication. Membership is renewable annually, however, members at age 56 are eligible for a lifetime membership.
The 2022 ISSAAS is still open for registration.
