ASCOT officially opens the College Intramurals 2017 with the theme, “Combating Drugs and Corruption through Sports and Action”, in an opening program held last September 25, 2017. Student-athletes, Faculty members, and tournament officials actively participated the fun ran and Zumba which served as the kick-off event for the College Intramurals. The formal opening of the event began thereafter with the lightning of the torch, and the hoisting of team flags spearheaded by the College Officials and Team Captains.
Converged in the newly constructed ASCOT Gymnasium, the dynamic crowd of participating teams occupied the place to its limits as the competition begins with the Search for Mr. and Ms. Intramurals 2017. Cheers and yells echoed inside the Gymnasium as all were excited to see their representatives walked on the stage and competed for the most coveted title. Everyone was fervent and excited to know the winners but in the end, Ms. Information Technology and Mr. Engineering were hailed Mr. and Ms. Intramurals 2017.
The excitement was kept up as the competition for the Yell and Mascot continues. The screaming crowd and supporters from the different teams were amazed by the wits, creativity, and artistry of every ASCOTians as manifested with their mascots and yells giving a colourful and festive mood for the celebration.
Different individual and team sports events including Athletics, Badminton, Baseball/Softball, Basketball, Chess, Volleyball/Beach Volleyball, Dart, Scrabble/Word Factory, Sepak Takraw, Table Tennis, and Taekwondo were held during the week-long event since the main objective of the activity was to select official athletes for the State Colleges and Universities Athletic Association (SCUAA) competitions of the current academic year.
After a week of tough competition on various sports events, the Engineering Department was able to prove that they were undefeatable after besting most of the sports events making them this year’s Champion while the Department of Industrial Technology got the 2nd Place. The growing Department of Agriculture and Aquatic Sciences has also proved their worth as they were able to make it to the top 3. The Department of Information Technology came in Fourth. Fifth place went to the Department of Forestry and Environmental Sciences and the Department of Arts and Sciences and the Department ofGeneral Education occupies the sixth and seventh place respectively.
