October 28, 2024 – The Aurora State College of Technology (ASCOT) community gathered with heartfelt joy to celebrate the 61st birthday of President Renato G. Reyes under the theme “A Harvest of Legacy: 61 Years of Leadership and Inspiration.” The evening, vibrant with music, laughter, and meaningful tributes, brought together faculty, staff, student leaders, and friends for a night filled with camaraderie and gratitude.With a mushroom-inspired theme—fitting for a mushroom scientist like Dr. Reyes—the celebration was brimming with thoughtful details. The festivities opened with a video featuring greetings from students and ASCOT personnel, paired with candid snapshots capturing Dr. Reyes’ dedication and kindness. Faculty and staff shared stories, including Atty. Karl Olivar’s playful remark about Dr. Reyes’ energetic stamina on long hikes and walks, recalling their memorable Bazal Forest trek and recent visit to Indonesia. SCSC President Jawnel Baldonade also expressed her admiration, describing the President’s early-rising habit and his personalized words of encouragement to those around him, while highlighting his genuine generosity and ambitious vision for ASCOT.
The School of Information Technology delighted everyone with a light-hearted video sketch, subtly impersonating Dr. Reyes’ voice and demeanor, and added a touch of nostalgia by greeting him in Japanese, paying homage to his time spent studying in Japan.
Before blowing out his birthday candles, Dr. Reyes expressed his gratitude to everyone involved, emphasizing the importance of celebrating life as a gift from God. He also shared highlights from his recent trip to Indonesia, which he believes is pivotal for ASCOT’s future. He inspired the community with his vision for the college’s progress and growth, leaving everyone feeling motivated and appreciative.
To close the evening, Dr. Reyes took the stage to serenade the remaining few guests with heartfelt renditions of You by Basil Valdez and My Way by Frank Sinatra, ending the celebration on a memorable and touching note.
