August 7, 2024 – Aurora State College of Technology (ASCOT) showcased its commitment to tech innovation at the Digital Careers Expo held at the Senator Edgardo J. Angara Convention Center. The event featured Associate Professor and Data Protection Officer Von Gerald Macose as a guest speaker.
Organized by the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) Region III, the expo highlighted opportunities in various ICT-enabled sectors, drawing ICT enthusiasts, local government partners, out-of-school youth, indigenous people, fresh graduates, and students from diverse disciplines.
In his presentation, Mr. Macose explored career opportunities in emerging technologies. He emphasized the Internet of Things (IoT) as a transformative force in smart homes, cities, healthcare, and agriculture, driving efficiency and job creation. He explained how blockchain technology secures transactions and manages data, extending its benefits beyond cryptocurrencies to prevent fraud. Mr. Macose also stressed the critical importance of cybersecurity in protecting data from growing threats. Additionally, he highlighted Artificial Intelligence (AI) for its role in automating tasks and driving innovation in industries such as healthcare and finance.
ASCOT’s participation in the Digital Careers Expo underscores its commitment to bridging education and industry by equipping students with the skills needed for the digital age. This engagement also aligns with UN Sustainable Development Goal 9, focusing on sustainable industrialization and innovation.
