It was an easy scale to the top for the 4th year BIT-ET student from ASCOT, Eddtone Bobb Lumasac, as he bagged the gold medal in the Taekwondo Welter Weight division during the SCUAA National Olympics, February 17-23, 2013.
The whole- day event took place in Jose Rizal Memorial State University (JRMSU) Dipolog Campus, Dipolog City, Zambonga del Norte last February 19, 2013.
Lumasac, representing Region III, battled NCR in the first round of the single elimination event. The referee stopped the fight after NCR felt nauseous because of the two axe kicks which landed on his face.
During the semi finals, Lumasac was unstoppable. He then beat the athlete from Region VIII with his powerful kicks and killer strikes. Once again, he won via knock out as his opponent suffered a cut in the face and the fight was stopped.
In the championship, Lumasac dominated the two-round fight with Region VII. He scored 10 – 0 in the first round and 5 – 2 in the second round, both in his favor.
The 20-year old athlete from Baler was a crowd favourite and was expected to win according to ASCOT Sports Coordinator Roderick Zante.
It was his second time playing in the same event. Last year, Lumasac brought home the bronze medal after he was beaten by NCR in the SCUAA Nationals in Iloilo City.
This is the last year for the graduating student to compete in SCUAA Olympics, and he made it worthwhile with a gold medal around his neck.
Lumasac is trained by coach Jun Espinosa. (CT Olivar)
