Save Smart, Spend Wise! Mastering Money with ASCOT x BSP Webinar

February 13, 2025 – Aurora State College of Technology held a Financial Awareness Webinar at the Bulwagang Senator Edgardo J. Angara, organized by the School of Accountancy and Business Management (SABM) in partnership with the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP). The event accommodated both in-person and online participants, including students, faculty, and employees.

The webinar aimed to enhance financial literacy, emphasizing the importance of responsible money management, saving, and fraud prevention. In his opening remarks, Dr. Ricardo G. Gonzales, Dean of School of Accountancy and Business Management, highlighted the value of financial discipline in achieving long-term financial stability. He also expressed gratitude to the organizers and resource speakers for bringing such a significant discussion to the ASCOT community.

Key speakers Mr. Gomer C. Gomez, Bank Officer II, and Jim Ian A. Bautista, Senior Research Specialist from BSP North Luzon Regional Office, provided insightful discussions on Central Banking 101, BSP’s role in the Philippine financial system, and its core functions—Price Stability, Financial Stability, and Efficient Payment Systems. They also introduced the first polymer banknote series, detailing its design, security features, and ways to detect counterfeit money.

A major highlight of the webinar was the session on financial planning, where participants learned about effective saving strategies and practical ways to manage their finances.

The program concluded with closing remarks from Ms. Cynthia D. Macose, ASCOT Supervising Administrative Officer, reinforcing the relevance of financial literacy in fostering economic resilience within the community. “Financial literacy is challenging, kaya sana maisabuhay at ma-practice natin ang mga natutunan natin ngayon,” she said.

This initiative aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth, as it empowers individuals with financial knowledge, promoting responsible economic participation.
