Regional Agriculture Experts Convene at ASCOT for PAA Tamarind Chapter Meeting

March 14, 2025 – The Philippine Association of Agriculturists (PAA) Inc. – Tamarind Chapter, a professional organization dedicated to advancing agriculture through education, research, and collaboration, held its First Quarter Meeting and Planning at the Bulwagang Senator Edgardo J. Angara Upper Deck, General Education Building, Aurora State College of Technology (ASCOT) Zabali Campus.

The PAA Tamarind Chapter is part of the national Philippine Association of Agriculturists (PAA) Inc., which serves as the premier organization for agriculture professionals in the country. The Tamarind Chapter specifically represents experts, educators, and practitioners from various state universities and colleges (SUCs) in Region 3, working together to enhance agricultural development and innovation.

The gathering brought together key figures in agriculture from different SUCs across the region. Among those in attendance were ASCOT President Dr. Renato G. Reyes, Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Ma Luz F. Cabatan, and PAA Tamarind Chapter President Dr. Hermogenes M. Paguia. Also present were Arnold B. Novicio, Head of the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist, and the PAA Board of Directors from different SUCs.

One of the meeting’s highlights was the oath-taking of new members and officials, including the appointment of Dr. Renato G. Reyes as Adviser of PAA Region 3 – Tamarind Chapter. His appointment underscores the increasing collaboration between academic institutions and agricultural organizations in addressing key challenges in the sector.

Speaking at the event, Dr. Reyes emphasized the importance of collective action in strengthening agricultural education and research.

“We need to take meaningful steps and implement interventions that truly benefit the province. Having skilled individuals is key, and through research and extension, we can stay relevant—not just for our students, but for the wider community as well,” he shared.

The discussions also covered the 2024 Tamarind Chapter Accomplishment Report, PAA National Strategic Thrust and Directions, and the finalization of action plans and programs for 2025 and 2026.

Dr. Paguia, PAA Tamarind Chapter President, expressed optimism about the chapter’s future and its role in driving agricultural progress.

“Let’s work together to create real impact. Our organization should serve as a platform for the community to step up, contribute, and grow. With ASCOT’s support, we can achieve bigger things and drive lasting progress in the agricultural sector,” he stated.

The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to strengthen agricultural initiatives, build partnerships, and drive innovation that will benefit farmers, educators, and students alike.

With ASCOT’s continuous support for agricultural advancement, the PAA Tamarind Chapter is set to roll out programs that promote sustainable farming, food security, and knowledge-sharing in the coming years.
