March 7, 2025 – Aurora State College of Technology (ASCOT) President Dr. Renato G. Reyes welcomed representatives from the National Anti-Poverty Commission (NAPC) to discuss efforts to revitalize Aurora’s fiber industry. Dr. Reyes emphasized ASCOT’s commitment to research and development, particularly in assessing abaca’ viability in Aurora’s climate, and the potential of alternative fibers such as coconut, sabutan, and pineapple. He also highlighted the role of ASCOT’s tissue culture laboratory in supporting fiber production studies to advance sustainable agricultural practices.

The meeting was an initial discussion, with a formal partnership still in the works. NAPC representatives John Henry Yuson (CDA II), Noriel Miguel (STO I), Eliseo Palad (STO I), and Alfredo Antonio (DMO V) joined the conversation, which supports UN Sustainable Development Goal 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure) and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals), focusing on sustainable agriculture and teamwork for progress.
