March 26, 2025- The Aurora State College of Technology (ASCOT), through its Aurora Studies Center, hosted an international lecture on Crane Flies in the Philippines, featuring Dr. Levente Péter Kolcsár, a fellow of the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science at Ehime University, Japan.
Dr. Kolcsár, an expert in taxonomy, aquatic ecosystems, biodiversity, and entomology, shared insights on crane flies (Tipuloidea), their diverse habitats, and their essential ecological roles—from decomposition and herbivory in their larval stage to nectar feeding and spore dispersal as adults.
ASCOT President Dr. Renato G. Reyes highlighted the significance of hosting global experts, emphasizing how such initiatives broaden research collaborations and strengthen ASCOT’s commitment to biodiversity conservation and sustainability.
This initiative aligns with United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 15: Life on Land, reinforcing ASCOT’s dedication to scientific research and environmental awareness.
