March 26, 2025 – In a step toward fortifying its research and innovation initiatives, the Aurora State College of Technology (ASCOT) proudly took part in the first-ever Patent Agents and Patent Attorneys Training Course hosted by the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines (IPOPHL), in partnership with the Bureau of Patents (BOP), Bureau of Legal Affairs (BLA), and the Association of PAQE Professionals, Inc. (APPI).
Representing ASCOT was Atty. Karl Thomas Olivar, Head of the Legal Unit, who joined 64 other participants from government agencies, academic institutions, and private organizations across the country. The intensive 11-day training was held from March 12 to 26, 2025 at the University of the Philippines BGC Campus.
The program equipped attendees with essential knowledge on patent laws, drafting, and filing—key areas in safeguarding intellectual property and supporting innovation ecosystems in higher education institutions.
“Of course, I’m very grateful for the opportunity. Although I must admit na nahirapan ako, most of the participants are practitioners in the field already. One of the toughest trainings I’ve had, I must say. But very worthwhile. Marami akong natutunan. And with the knowledge I gained, I hope to share it with others and help ASCOT in achieving its mission,” Atty. Olivar said.
Participation in this pioneering course reinforces ASCOT’s commitment to enhancing its capacity in intellectual property management—a vital support to the College’s mission to nurture a dynamic research culture and translate creative outputs into meaningful contributions to society.
