SCHOOL OF INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY

The School of Information Technology caters the highest percentage of the student population. Its separation from the Department of Engineering and Technology was approved by the BOT on May 13, 2008. As a separate department, it is manned by seven regular instructors, two temporary status and two contract of service instructors back then. Headed by their Dean, Dr. Mayreen V. Amazona, it continues to provide quality trainings needed by the students.

Admission Requirements

ADMISSION & RETENTION POLICY

I. ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

A. FIRST YEAR STUDENTS

a. Must pass 50% (7-8 points/ 15 question) of the Information Technology questions; 30% (3 points/10 questions) of the Mathematical Ability questions; and 30% (3 points/ 10 questions) of the Reading Comprehension questions in the ASCOT Entrance Examination. Aspirants IT students who were unable to attain the required score may still be qualified if they belong to the top 20% of entrance exam, passed the interview and other requirements.

b. Must pass the qualifying interview in the department.

c. Students must pledge to abide by and comply with all the regulations of the Department and the College.

d. Students graduated from Senior High School in accredited educational institutions will be admitted, from any track or specialization, provided they comply with the general admission requirements of the Department and take ICT Training Program prior taking the BSIT Course.

e. Students graduated from Alternative Learning System (ALS) in accredited educational institution will be , admitted, provided they comply with the general admission requirement of the Department and is eligible for College.

f. Life-Long learners will be admitted in the program, provided they comply with the general admission requirements of the Department.

A. TRANSFEREE

a. Must pass 50% of the Information Technology questions; 30% of the Mathematical Ability questions; and 30% of the Reading Comprehension questions in the ASCOT Entrance Examination.

b. Subjects taken from the previous University/College must be validated if it coincides with the course description as offered in the Department.

i. Grades of 2.50 from a State University maybe credited

ii. Grades of 2.25 from higher education private institution may be credited

c. Must pass the qualifying interview in the Department.

d. Students must pledge to abide by and comply with all the regulations of the Department and the College.

B. SHIFTERS

a. Weighted average from the previous program taken must not be below 2.50.

b. Must pass the qualifying interview in the Department.

c. Students must pledge to abide by and comply with all the regulations of the Department and the College.

II. POLICY ON ICT TRAINING PROGRAM

Upon enrollment, students graduated in any track in SHS will take the ICT training program prior to the course. Specifically, their skills will be tested on the following areas:

1. Basic Productivity Applications (16 hours)

2. Basic Programming Logic Formulation (16 hours)

3. Basic Computer Operation (16 hours)

After completion of the ICT Training program, the student will receive Certificate of Completion from the department and will serve as introduction for taking the course. The ICT Training program is a preparation for ICT subject to be taken in the BSIT course.

III. RETENTION REQUIREMENTS

a. Student must not have more than 30% failing grade including INCOMPLETE grade) in the previous semester to be able to enroll in the succeeding semester.

i. A student is allowed two semesters where he/she may have 30% failing grade for subjects enrolled. A warning letter will be given to student, after which, he/she will be advised to shift to other program of the college.

b. A certificate in Associate in Computer Technology shall be granted to the students after completing the first two years in the curriculum.

c. After finishing Associate in Computer Technology, student is/are encouraged to take at least one certification in line with his/her specialization from recognized certification organization.
Graduate of ACT can proceed to the BSIT program with his/her field of specialization.
